About

Iowa is at a crossroad. Within the last decade Iowa has moved from a battleground state to a solid red state. Republicans control both chambers of the Iowa legislature and the Executive branch. Iowa has chosen to send a Republican delegation to Washington DC year after year. While generally speaking Republicans embrace Christianity, the Christian conservative ideas risk losing prominence within the Republican party of the state of Iowa. The national Republican party has broadly accepted gay marriage. Thankfully, the Iowa Republican party has stated within their party platform that marriage is between one natural man and one natural woman. We must stay strong in the face of national pressure on foundational topics such as marriage and family.

The Democrat party codified in their party platform some very anti biblical views. Yet, the only Democrat currently in statewide office, Rob Sand, who is also currently running for governor is quoting many Bible verses on the campaign trail. He is trying to convince the Iowa voters that he is a moderate and a good Christian man. Merely quoting verses doesn’t make someone a Christian nor does it indicate that they should be taken seriously as a Christian, especially when they hold to other positions that are clearly opposed to biblical teaching.

So we have a conundrum, Iowa Republicans risk becoming a Christ-less conservative movement while the Iowa Democrats simply lie about their “christian” values to get votes. Neither of these outcomes benefit Iowa long term. It is for this reason I have started the Iowa Crossroad podcast. Each episode we discuss where party platforms align with or diverge from biblical teachings.
